2degrees announces fourth live LTE market [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The New Zealand mobile operator 2degrees has launched 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in Hamilton, meaning it now has high speed mobile networks in the country's four largest cities, after its initial launch in Auckland in June and expansion to Wellington and Christchurch earlier this month. 2degrees' chief technology officer Mike Davies told ZDnet: 'The first stage of our rollout has been achieved well ahead of schedule, and the rollout to NZ's other cities and towns will begin earlier than expected.' He added: 'Whilst data usage on our network has continued to double each year, we have seen a significant increase since we launched 4G in June, with 4G customers using 70% more data on an average day compared to those using 3G.' Rival operators Vodafone NZ and Spark (formerly Telecom NZ) both launched 4G services last year.
