Ntrepid Corporation Issued Patent for Online Identity Protection System

Herndon, VA, Feb 25, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Ntrepid Corporation announced today that the U.S. Patent Office has issued Ntrepid a patent covering its system for protecting identity in a network environment.

Global networks, including the Internet, have become a virtual community where people send and receive electronic text, voice, and image messages to convey information, share ideas, express opinions, and negotiate and conduct business transactions. Few people realize how easily the bits and bytes of electronic communication are intercepted, tampered with, and traced back to the originating source. Online privacy invasion can result in serious monetary loss or reputation damage when research is blocked or future plans and confidential information are unintentionally exposed and attributed to an individual or organization.

Ntrepid's invention, awarded patent number 8,375,434 on February 12, 2013, is a system that masks identifying characteristics of users and machines when communicating over various kinds of networks. Among the many characteristics that the Ntrepid system masks, a few examples include the originator's Internet Protocol (IP) address, operating system, time zone, email address, user name, and browser version. The system can also disperse large-scale data collection queries across thousands of non-attributed IP addresses to circumvent blocking. The patent covers computer-to-computer, as well as telephone, facsimile, voice over IP (VOIP), paging, and any other system where the nature of communication imparts identifying information about the originator of a message. It applies broadly to wired and wireless, intranet and internet, local and wide area networks and any combination thereof.

"Other anonymity and misattribution systems, such as using only a proxy server, loosely mask just one attribute of a sender's identity, which is the IP address," explains Lance Cottrell, Chief Scientist at Ntrepid Corporation and founder of Anonymizer (wholly owned by Ntrepid Corporation). "Other network safety approaches, such as firewalls and virus protection software, can block and neutralize malicious content, but they do not protect users' identities. Only Ntrepid's patented system can comprehensively hide all the identity attributes, thereby safeguarding the privacy of our customers." The patent covers many of the core technologies in Ntrepid's ION suite, which provides a variety of attribution control solutions. From basic IP address masking to geo-rectified egress control, Ntrepid manages the technical complexities of identity protection for its customers through its ION solutions. The ION suite also includes virtualization, cryptography and other tools to provide total protection.

Ntrepid Corporation holds two other online safety-related patents in the United States and Australia, including U.S. Patent no. 8,332,626 for a method and apparatus for authentication token-based service redirection and Australian patent no. 2005321876 for a system protecting identity in a network environment. Ntrepid also holds U.S. Patent no. 8,306,807 for its system for translating foreign language data in structured data sources.

About Ntrepid Ntrepid Corporation provides a number of technology solutions that solve operational challenges in the areas of Internet operations, information management, analytics, linguistics, and tracking. Product information is at http://www.ntrepidcorp.com.
