Australian company wins global NFC competition
Amsterdam, February 04, 2013 - SMARTRAC N.V., the leading developer,
manufacturer, and supplier of RFID transponders and inlays, today announced
the winner of its global NFCtags.com partner competition.
Launched in December 2012, the www.NFCtags.com competition aimed at
providing talented developers and innovative newcomers with a platform to
showcase their products and solutions to a global audience at the 70,000
attendee strong Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2013. The
product or solution had to be available commercially in order to qualify
for the competition.
Based in Albury, New South Wales, Australia, NFCWireless.com.au was awarded
first place due to the ease of use of its app, which allows anyone with an
NFC phone to customize NFC tags to perform complex tasks regardless of
design or technology skills. It thereby embodies the vision of NFC.
The NFCWireless 'Tagster' NFC packs contain 6 NFC 'hotdots' equipped with
SMARTRAC Midas NFC inlays which can be used to carry out useful actions on
mobile phones. Users can, for example, send a text message, call a number
or open a URL on their NFC-enabled phone, simply by tapping a hotdot tag.
Each Tagster pack also contains an embedded NFC tag that enables users to
download Tagster, a free encoding app.
NFCWireless has received good feedback on its product, but admits that they
were surprised to win the competition. 'There is a gap in the market for
people who can deliver technically complex NFC solutions. We're the first
major NFC solution provider with a general retail NFC tag package and we
continue to push the boundaries of what NFC can do,' says Patrick Crooks of
NFCWireless. 'The Mobile World Congress is the perfect platform for us to
demonstrate these capabilities to the rest of the world.'
The Mobile World Congress is being held in Barcelona from February 25 to
28, 2013. As the premier global showcase for the ever-growing mobile
industry, it is attended by senior executives of most major mobile phone
companies, handset manufacturers, and app providers. Tagster will be
showcased at the SMARTRAC booth #7I30.
