4G licence strategy 'a terrible piece of policy'
Jan 08, 2013 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The Australian Government aims to gain some $A2.8bn from the auctioning of digital frequency spectrum needed for new fourth-generation (4G) mobile telephony services. However, the setting of a reserve price and other related measures have prompted second-ranked telco Singtel Optus to warn it may not launch a bid. The third in the market, Vodafone, had already withdrawn from the process. Ex-Optus executive and now federal Opposition MP Paul Fletcher argues that dominant telco Telstra will be able to cement its position and that competition will suffer.
