DTS and Moshcam Co-develop New Mobile Application Proof of Concept That Provides Users an Enhanced Mobile Concert Experience
LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)--
DTS,
Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio solutions and
audio enhancement technologies, today announced that it has collaborated
with Moshcam-a streaming video service dedicated to bringing live
concert experiences to the masses-to make available an all-new app that
serves as an extraordinary demonstration of the power of DTS' (News - Alert)
technologies in a mobile ecosystem. The Moshcam app utilizes an
MPEG-DASH playback engine, provided by castLabs, a leading mobile video
technologies and services company, and content is prepared with DTS
audio using software provided by Manzanita Systems, a leading provider
of essential MPEG software solutions for digital television, VOD, and
digital ad insertion. Moshcam brings thousands of the best artists,
events and on-demand concerts from around the world to consumers through
the Moshcam app, and now with DTS streaming solutions embedded within
the app, users will experience a truly immersive surround sound
listening environment-putting them in the midst of the crowd.
Moshcam is able to efficiently stream DTS Express™-encoded content to
service subscribers through an MPEG-DASH adaptive-bit-rate container
file, which can then be decoded via the Moshcam app's embedded media
player that was developed by castLabs. The end result is a true
concert-like entertainment experience anytime, anywhere.
"We are pleased to be working with Moshcam, castLabs and Manzanita
Systems to bring the new Moshcam proof of concept app to fruition," said
Brian Towne, executive vice president and chief operating officer at
DTS. "The end product of the strategic combination of our four
companies' combined efforts serves as an incredible testament to the
flexibility and efficiency of DTS' advanced audio solutions and their
ability to provide an immersive surround sound experience over mobile
devices."
"When we first heard our live concert videos enhanced by the DTS
surround sound technology, streaming over the Internet, we were blown
away. The Moshcam and DTS collaboration is a perfect example of
technology and content converging to create something truly
spectacular," said Stephen Peach, CEO, Moshcam. "First-rate audio
quality has always been a core objective of Moshcam, and this alliance
allows us to take that promise to the next level. The DTS audio
technology that powers Moshcam's Android (News - Alert) app delivers an online concert
experience that is unparalleled in quality and clarity. We are thrilled
to be working together and look forward to a continued partnership
during 2013 and beyond."
DTS Express is a high performance adaptive bit rate technology
that delivers an impressive cinematic surround sound experience from
content, whether streamed or downloaded. With the ability to adapt to
bit rate changes without audio dropouts, clicks or pops, as noticed with
competing audio solutions, DTS Express shines when bandwidth is limited
and network conditions fluctuate.
DTS Express provides:
-
Constant bit-rates from 64 kbps (2 Channel) and up
-
5.1 channels from 160 kbps to 512 kbps
-
Supports up to 7.1 channels from 288 kbps to 768 kbps
-
Adaptive bit rate capability (without audio anomalies)
-
Backwards compatibility with all legacy products via the DTS real-time
transcoder
The Moshcam app featuring DTS playback capabilities is currently in its
proof of concept stage and plans for bringing this product to market
have not yet been finalized. You can check out the current Moshcam
service at www.moshcam.com,
