Competition concerns over Telstra takeover deal
Dec 19, 2012 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission will rule on 20 December 2012 on the planned acquisition by Telstra of small ISP Adam Internet. The deal worth around $A55m is being opposed by rivals Singtel Optus, iiNet and Macquarie Telecom. They note that Adam may be able to offer deep discounts as the budget arm of the dominant Telstra, given the latter could provide substantial financial backing. The recently rolled-out structural separation undertaking for Telstra does not prohibit it from charging cheaper wholesale rates to its own wholly-owned subsidiary.
