SoundHound Launches New Interactive Mapping Feature, Partnering with Rdio for Enhanced Music Discovery
SANTA CLARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
SoundHound Inc., the revolutionary sound search company with more than
100 million users around the world, has launched a new mapping feature
that allows users to see, at that exact moment, what songs are being
discovered and listened to by people on their street or anywhere else in
the world. Amplified by Rdio, a digital music service with a library of
more than 18 million songs, the new SoundHound music mapping feature
enables users to explore what songs are trending in their backyard and
around the world. Users can dig in and learn more about the song and
artists and have the option to share with friends, buy the song, view
videos or link directly to the Rdio app where they can listen to the
full track.
"The SoundHound music mapping feature offers users the unique
opportunity to explore what songs are trending near them or around the
world and encourages users to want to explore and spend more time within
the app," said Cheryl Lucanegro, Vice President of Advertising Strategy
and Sales for SoundHound. "It also offers Rdio high profile access to
millions of active, social mobile users. We are always looking at ways
to enhance what is already the best mobile sound search and experience.
In launching the mapping feature, we have given our 100 million plus
users yet another reason to use SoundHound, discover sound and music and
share with friends."
When SoundHound users open the app, they will immediately be greeted
with the option to access a map showing songs that have been discovered
by other SoundHound users in their area. Users can pinch the screen to
get hyper-local detail or extend the map and see what is being
discovered in other parts of the country. Each discovery on the map can
be tapped to reveal a SoundHound results page with more detail about the
artist and the song, watch videos and share your discoveries with
friends or on Twitter (News - Alert). Users also can tap to gain direct access to Rdio,
where they can listen to the full track and more music by that artist.
Users who are new to Rdio will be prompted to download and install it to
their mobile devices.
"We're thrilled to be SoundHound's integrated music partner for the
release of this breakthrough feature," said Mrisol Segal, Executive
Director of Marketing, Rdio. "Like Rdio, SoundHound was built for music
discovery - that's why this is a perfect partnership. The new music
mapping feature takes advantage of the inherent social nature of Rdio,
creating yet another opportunity for passionate fans to discover new
music."
Currently, the mapping feature is available to users of the ad-supported
version of SoundHound. The SoundHound App is available for free from the
App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, or at http://bit.ly/soundhoundonios.
Users can also download the free version of the SoundHound App and
upgrade to the premium version.
On Android (News - Alert) devices, SoundHound is available at http://bit.ly/soundhoundandroid.
Windows Phone users can download SoundHound at http://bit.ly/NExZ8X.
