Optus dials in to UK spectrum experience
Dec 02, 2012 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) --
Singtel Optus consumer division head Kevin Russell warns that excessive prices of digital frequency spectrum for mobile telephony paid to the Australian Government may cripple the industry. The telco is already starting to compete against dominant rival Telstra in the emerging fourth-generation (4G) mobile services segment. Russell was formerly with the Australian operation of Hong Kong-based telco Hutchison, and then worked for that company in the UK. He notes that the experience in the latter market shows the inherent risk of spectrum auctions.
